The Nintendo 64 version of BattleTanx: Global Assault is a fast-paced, post-apocalyptic vehicular combat game released by The 3DO Company in 1999. It is widely considered the definitive version of the game, best known for its fully destructible cities and chaotic couch multiplayer.

The N64 Experience

• 4-Player Split-Screen: The N64 hardware allows up to four players to battle simultaneously in local multiplayer, a major feature lacking in the 2-player PlayStation port.
• Destructible World Grid: Players can completely level entire cities, collapsing skyscrapers and shattering global monuments like the Eiffel Tower and the U.S. Capitol Building to uncover hidden power-ups.
• Expansion Pak Integration: The game utilizes the N64 Expansion Pak to optimize performance, maintaining smooth frame rates even when the screen is filled with massive explosions and collapsing architecture.

Campaign Story & Mission Structure

• The Premise: Set in a dystopian 2006 where a virus has decimated the female population, rival tank gangs fight for control of the remaining "Queen Lords."
• The Mission: Players control hero Griffin Spade across 40 campaign levels spanning New York, London, Paris, and Berlin to rescue his kidnapped son from the villainous Cassandra.
• Multiplayer Modes: Beyond deathmatches, the N64 version features "Battlelord" (a tactical Capture-the-Flag variant where you kidnap opposing Queens) and cooperative campaign options.

Combat Arsenal

• Vehicles: Control 13 unique faction vehicles, including the swift MotoTank, the balanced M1A1 Abrams, and the massive, heavily armored Goliath.
• Weapons: Over 20 weapon pick-ups litter the battlefield, featuring lasers, plasma bolts, shields, guided missiles (steerable via the D-pad), and tactical Nukes that vaporize everything on the map.
