Blast Corps is a 1997 action-puzzle video game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. Players control a demolition team that must destroy buildings and clear obstacles from the path of a runaway nuclear missile carrier to prevent a global disaster.
The Story
- Runaway Carrier: An automated truck carrying defective nuclear warheads is stuck on autopilot and leaking radiation.
- Direct Route: The carrier moves in a straight line and will explode upon hitting any obstacle.
- Blast Corps: Your elite demolition squad is called in to flatten everything in the truck's path across over 50 intense levels.
Gameplay Mechanics
- Path Clearing: Destroy designated buildings and structures highlighted by directional arrows before the carrier arrives.
- Puzzle Elements: Solve environmental puzzles by shifting between vehicles, moving cargo boxes, and building bridges.
- Exploration: Revisit completed levels to find hidden scientists, rescue trapped civilians, and collect Radiation Dispersal Units (RDUs).
Vehicles and Robots
- Bulldozer: A heavy machine used to smash through standard walls and small structures.
- Backlash: A dump truck that destroys obstacles by slamming its rear end into them at high speeds.
- Mechs and Robots: High-tech robotic suits like the Cyclone Suit and J-Bomb that can leap, stomp, and blast through entire city blocks.
