Captain Commando is a futuristic, side-scrolling beat 'em up game developed and published by Capcom for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1995. Originally a popular 1991 arcade brawler, the game tasks a superhero team with protecting the universe from an army of genetically engineered super-criminals.

Game Overview & Plot

The game takes place in a futuristic version of Metro City during the year 2026. A ruthless, tyrannical alien mutant known as Scumocide (Genocide in Japan) is hatching a plan to take over the universe. To foil this plot, Captain Commando assembles a team of four renegade warriors—known as the Commando Team—to fight through 9 hostile stages. The crusade takes the team through various Earth locations like banks, museums, and aquariums, before culminating in an outer-space showdown on the planet Callisto.

Playable Characters

Players can select from four distinct heroes, each boasting unique attributes and special attacks:

  • Captain Commando: The leader of the team who wears a futuristic combat suit and attacks using energy gloves capable of shooting electricity and fire.
  • Ginzu the Ninja (Sho): A agile martial arts master who fights with a highly lethal, razor-sharp sword.
  • Mack the Knife (Jennety): An enigmatic alien mummy who utilizes dual short knives to quickly whip and shred his opponents.
  • Baby Head (Baby Hoover): A literal infant genius who pilots a high-powered, mechanical mech suit capable of throwing devastating punches and launching missiles.
  • SNES Gameplay Features
  • 2-Player Co-op: Unlike the SNES port of Final Fight, Captain Commando features simultaneous local cooperative play for up to two players.
  • Interchangeable Vehicles: Players can knock enemies out of motorized surfboards or bipedal robotic walkers and hijack them for added defensive power and force.
  • Diverse Enemy Roster: Battle through genetically modified thugs, shock-rod wielding women, martial arts ninjas, and massive alien mutants.
