Key Features & Enhancements

• Animated Pokémon Sprites: Crystal was the first game in the series to feature animations for Pokémon when they first enter a battle, adding a new level of visual life to the encounters.
• Playable Female Character: For the first time, players could choose to play as either a male or female trainer (named Kris), each with a unique sprite and animations.
• The Battle Tower: A new facility located near Olivine City that allows players to take on a series of increasingly difficult trainers for prizes.
• Legendary Suicune Subplot: The story places a greater emphasis on the legendary Pokémon Suicune, including a pursuit of the creature across the region and the introduction of a new character, Eusine, who is obsessed with finding it.
• Ruins of Alph Overhaul: The mysterious ruins now include new puzzles and rewards centered around the Unown. 
• Hardware Exclusive: Unlike Gold and Silver, which were compatible with the original Game Boy, Pokémon Crystal was developed exclusively for the Game Boy Color and will not run on the original monochromatic Game Boy systems.
