Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: The Manhattan Project is a classic 8-bit, side-scrolling beat 'em up game developed and published by Konami. It was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in North America in February 1992. Unlike its direct predecessor, which was a port of an arcade title, TMNT III was built from the ground up as an original home console game.
Game Plot
The story begins with the four Ninja Turtles enjoying a vacation on the beaches of Florida. Their break is cut short when Shredder broadcasts a message revealing he has kidnapped April O'Neil and levitated the entire island of Manhattan into the sky. The Turtles must battle their way back to New York to save April and defeat Shredder's forces.
Key Gameplay Features
- Two-Player Co-op: Features two-player simultaneous co-op action, allowing players to select from Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, or Raphael.
- Unique Special Moves: Every turtle has a distinct signature special move that costs one bar of health to execute, though it becomes unlimited when players drop to their final bar of health.
- Advanced Scoring System: Points are awarded based on the type of attack used to finish off enemies, rewarding precise play style rather than just simple kill counts.
- Iconic Roster: Battles take place across 8 levels—ranging from Florida beaches to New York rooftops—and feature bosses like Bebop, Rocksteady, Slash, Tokka, Rahzar, and Krang.
